Overall the type of mat you use depends on your situation, surface, and most importantly – What is comfortable for you?
In Pilates, other than Yoga and fitness, we need a good bit of spine support for comfort so we don’t injure ourselves during exercises.
Most Yoga mats are usually between 1/8″-1/4″ thick and Pilates Mats are from 1/2″- 1″ thick the classical Pilates Mat from Balanced Body is 5/8″ that most Pilates studios will have. The biggest concern with making sure you have a correct mat is so that your spine is protected and any painful joins are supported. Make sure you find the right mat for the fitness you are doing and enjoy!
